What it is

What Reminder Bot and Dyno do

Reminder Bot (reminder-bot.com, by JellyWX) is a dedicated reminder bot. You create a reminder with /remind by filling in a time and the content, or on its web dashboard, which adds templates and embed formatting. It reads dates loosely, accepts cron-like times, and can ping users and roles you put in the content. Each person sets a timezone once with /timezone. Reminders are unlimited and free; repeating ones (daily, weekly, monthly) need a $2 a month Patreon subscription, or you can host the open-source bot yourself.

Dyno is a general-purpose server bot whose Reminders module adds ?remindme [time] [reminder]. When the time is up, Dyno sends you a private message. According to Dyno's docs you currently cannot list or remove the reminders you have set, and the command does nothing while an admin has the module switched off.

Both are triggered by a person writing a command. Neither watches mentions, replies or reactions, which is the part Mention Reminder does.

Best for: A quick "remind me in two hours" on a server that already runs Dyno.

When it is enough

When a reminder bot is enough

  • What you need is a reminder at a fixed time: an event, a deadline, a weekly check-in.
  • Your server wants announcements posted in a channel for everyone, not private nudges.
  • People on your server are happy to type a command each time they want reminding.
When to add Mention Reminder

When to add Mention Reminder

  • The things that slip are pings, and nobody types /remind for a ping they meant to answer in five minutes.
  • You want the reminder to stop as soon as the person replies, not fire on schedule regardless.
  • You want reminders to stay private, with only a πŸ”” on the original message.
  • Your team also works in Slack or Microsoft Teams and wants one inbox for every mention.
🀝 Using both

Using both

Keep Reminder Bot or Dyno for events, deadlines and personal notes. Mention Reminder tracks mentions written by people. It ignores messages from other bots, so a scheduled Reminder Bot announcement does not automatically become an item in its list.

Questions

Not the ones compared here. Reminder Bot and Dyno send what was written at the time it was set for, and neither reads replies or reactions. Mention Reminder starts from the mention itself and clears it when you reply to the message, react to it, or on the Team plan answer it elsewhere in the channel.

No, and on purpose: it has no slash commands at all. Reminders are created by the mentions people already write, settings live in the web panel, and each person picks their hours from the buttons in their own private thread.

Stop letting things vanish in the scroll

Add Mention Reminder to Slack, Teams or Discord - two minutes, once. After that it runs in the background and nobody on the team has to do anything else. Starter is free, no card.
