Mention Reminder
Comparison

Discord Inbox vs Mention Reminder

Discord’s Inbox shows mentions and unread messages. It helps you see who tagged you, but does not distinguish answered questions from messages you meant to return to. Mention Reminder keeps a separate list and reminds you on your schedule.

⚖️ The short answer

The Inbox is enough if you review mentions regularly and answer them straight away. Add Mention Reminder if you read messages in a hurry, postpone the reply and forget.

What it is

What the Discord Inbox does

The Inbox is built into Discord on desktop and in the browser. Its Mentions tab collects messages that mention you by @username, @role or @everyone, with filters to include or leave out the role and everyone mentions, and to show all servers or only the current one. @here mentions go to the Unreads tab instead.

An item leaves the Mentions tab when you close it with its X, or on its own after 7 days. The Unreads tab lists unread messages from channels you have not muted, and you clear it one message at a time or with "Mark Inbox As Read". A Jump button takes you to the message so you can reply.

Around it sit Discord's notification settings: per server and per channel you choose all messages, mentions only or nothing, and you can suppress @everyone, @here and role mentions. All of this is free and needs no setup.

When it is enough

When the Discord Inbox is enough

  • You check the Mentions tab every day and reply before you close anything.
  • You are in a few quiet servers and a ping rarely waits more than a few hours.
  • You mainly need to catch up on what you missed, not to keep track of what you owe.
When to add Mention Reminder

When to add Mention Reminder

  • You read pings on your phone, mean to answer later, and the moment has passed by evening.
  • You want the list to hold only what is unanswered, so a reply or a 👍 takes the item off.
  • You want the reminder to come to you at set hours, rather than relying on opening the Inbox.
  • A mention older than a week still matters to you, and it should not just expire.
🤝 Using both

Using both

Keep the Inbox for catching up on everything that happened. Mention Reminder does not replace it, it sits on top: of all the mentions in there, it tracks the direct ones still waiting on you and reminds you about those in your private thread. Answer one, and it leaves our list, whatever state your Inbox is in.

Questions

Discord clears items from the Mentions tab automatically after 7 days, and closing one with its X removes it straight away. Neither depends on whether you answered. A Mention Reminder item stays open until you reply to the message, react to it, or the message is deleted, however long that takes.

Mention Reminder does not treat reading as a reply. Your reply to the message or emoji reaction clears the item. On Team, AI can also match your reply posted separately in the channel.

Stop letting things vanish in the scroll

Add Mention Reminder to Slack, Teams or Discord - two minutes, once. After that it runs in the background and nobody on the team has to do anything else. Starter is free, no card.
