Mention Reminder
Comparison

Asana, Trello, Jira and Todoist vs Mention Reminder

Asana, Trello, Jira and Todoist have integrations for creating tasks from chat messages. That is useful for planning work. For a quick question, creating and later closing a task can add more work than the reply itself.

⚖️ The short answer

Use task apps for deadlines, assignments and project planning. Add Mention Reminder to keep track of everyday mentions without creating a task for each message.

What it is

What the task manager integrations do

Asana for Slack turns a Slack message into an Asana task you can assign to yourself or a teammate and add to a project, and posts task and project updates to Slack. Jira Cloud for Slack adds a message action that turns any message into a Jira work item, with AI filling in the details, plus channel subscriptions and personal notifications in DMs; Jira has the same kind of app for Microsoft Teams.

The Trello app for Slack links a Trello Workspace to a Slack workspace so you can create cards from Slack, preview Trello links and, with the Slack Power-Up, get board activity in Slack. An admin of both has to link the workspaces, and every person also links their own Trello account. Todoist for Slack is the personal one: a /todoist command and a message action save anything as a task, and tasks can be assigned to coworkers.

All four share the same shape: a person decides a message matters, creates the task, and later closes it. Nothing happens for a message nobody turned into a task, and the task does not know whether the message was answered in the meantime.

The options
  • Asana

A work management tool whose Slack app turns messages into assigned tasks in a project.

Best for: Teams that already plan their work in Asana projects and want requests from Slack to land there.

  • Trello

Boards and cards, with a Slack app that creates cards from messages.

Best for: Small teams that track work as cards on a board and want to drop Slack requests onto it.

  • Jira

Issue tracking whose Slack and Teams apps turn a message into a work item in one click.

Best for: Engineering and IT teams where a request from chat should become a tracked work item.

  • Todoist

A personal to-do list with a Slack app that saves any message as a task.

Best for: People who keep one personal to-do list and want to feed it from Slack.

When it is enough

When a task manager is enough

  • Most mentions you get are real pieces of work that deserve a task, an owner and a deadline.
  • You are disciplined about turning messages into tasks the moment you read them.
  • You want reminders about anything, not only messages that mention you.
  • Your team already plans its week from the board, and chat is just where requests start.
When to add Mention Reminder

When to add Mention Reminder

  • Most mentions just need a quick answer, and making a task for each one is more work than replying.
  • Mentions get missed before anyone decides whether they are worth a task.
  • You do not want a to-do list that fills up with questions already answered in the thread.
  • Reminders should go to the person who was mentioned without the sender assigning anything.
🤝 Using both

Using both

Create a task in your existing tool when a message needs planned work. Mention Reminder tracks the mention until your reply or reaction. Acknowledging it in chat clears the reminder; the task stays where your team tracks its progress.

Questions

Still stuck? Ask us directly →

Because most of them are answered in under a minute, and a task outlives the answer. You end up closing tasks for questions you already replied to. Mention Reminder watches the thread instead, so a reply or a reaction is all it takes to clear the reminder.

It currently focuses on mention reminders and has no deadlines, task assignments or boards. Keep using your existing task app to plan work.

Stop letting things vanish in the scroll

Add Mention Reminder to Slack, Teams or Discord - two minutes, once. After that it runs in the background and nobody on the team has to do anything else. Starter is free, no card.
