Copilot summarises a conversation when you ask. Mention Reminder's AI makes two narrow decisions on its own, on the Team plan: whether a separate message in the channel answered a mention, and whether an @channel or @team message needs a personal reply from each person. Passwords and keys are redacted before any text reaches it.
Copilot in Teams vs Mention Reminder
Copilot helps you catch up on Teams conversations by summarising points, decisions and action items. Mention Reminder helps you return to individual @mentions: it adds them to a list and reminds you until you reply or react.
Use Copilot to understand a long chat or meeting. Add Mention Reminder for regular reminders about unanswered mentions, without needing a Copilot licence.

What Copilot does in Teams chats
Copilot in Teams is part of Microsoft 365 Copilot. In a chat or channel you open the Copilot pane and ask a question, or pick a suggested prompt such as "Summarize what I've missed". It answers with the main points, action items and decisions, looking back 30 days unless you give another time frame.
The in-chat Copilot pane uses the conversation where you open it. According to Microsoft’s documentation, this feature cannot summarise images, Loop components or files shared in the thread. Other Microsoft 365 Copilot features have a broader scope; this comparison focuses on working with Teams conversations.
This feature requires an eligible Microsoft 365 Copilot licence and a qualifying base plan. Microsoft offers different business and enterprise options. The enterprise add-on is listed at $30 per user per month, billed annually, in addition to the base plan.

When Copilot is enough
- Your company already pays for Copilot and people are in the habit of asking it what they missed.
- What gets lost is the gist of long threads and meetings, rather than single questions to you.
- You catch up in one sitting, for example after a day off, rather than across the week.
When to add Mention Reminder
- You want to be told about an unanswered mention without remembering to ask anyone.
- Not everybody on the team has, or will get, a Copilot licence.
- You want a short list of what is still open that empties itself when you reply.
- Your team also works in Slack or Discord, where Copilot in Teams cannot see.
Using both
They answer different questions. Ask Copilot "what happened here?" when you come back to a busy chat. Let Mention Reminder answer "who is still waiting for me?" at your reminder hours, with each item clearing itself when you reply or react. On the Team plan Mention Reminder uses its own AI to match answers and filter @channel, with credentials removed first, and that needs no Copilot licence.
You need to request the chat summary in the Copilot pane. This feature does not itself create a reminder for each mention. Mention Reminder maintains that list automatically and brings it back on your schedule.
For this one job, yes: Team is $3 per person per month billed quarterly or $2.50 billed annually, and Starter is free for up to 5 people. Copilot costs more because it does far more than track mentions, so the fair comparison is whether you need those other things.
Yes. It is a Teams app an admin installs once, and it works for any covered person with Teams, whatever else their Microsoft 365 plan includes.
