Slackbot AI vs Mention Reminder

What it is

What the new Slackbot does

Since January 2026 Slackbot is a personal AI agent with the same access to Slack that you have. You can ask it to summarise channels, find messages, read files, run deep research or answer a question like "which DMs or mentions do I need to follow up on this morning?".

Slackbot can also run tasks on a schedule, such as preparing an agenda or sending a reminder. Its limits documentation specifies three automatic task runs per day in total. After reaching that limit, tasks can be run manually.

Ongoing access comes with Business+ (15 Slackbot messages per person per week) and Enterprise+ (no weekly cap). Free and Pro workspaces get it only as a trial or preview, or through Salesforce Flex Credits. Admins can restrict who uses it.

Compare the features

Slackbot AI compared with Mention Reminder

Reminders created automatically from @mentions
YesNo need to save messages. Applies to people an admin enables; obvious thanks and similar non-actionable mentions are skipped.
PartlyIt acts when you ask, or when a recurring task you created runs.
Recognises a reply to the mention
YesYour thread reply or reaction clears it. On Team, AI can also match your reply posted separately in the channel.

Private, nothing extra posted in the channel
YesThe list and reminders are private. The bot adds a 🔔 reaction to the source message.

When it is enough

When Slackbot is enough

  • You are on Business+ or Enterprise+ and already ask Slackbot to catch you up each morning.
  • You want summaries and research more than a per-mention reminder.
  • You only need a follow-up check once or twice a day and do it yourself.
When to add Mention Reminder

When to add Mention Reminder

  • Your team uses Free or Pro and needs reminders independent of Slackbot’s trial allowance.
  • You want every mention tracked for everyone covered, not only for people who think to ask.
  • You want a continuously updated list rather than a new summary each time you ask.
  • Your team also uses Teams or Discord and you want one inbox for all of it.
🤝 Using both

Using both

They fit together well. Mention Reminder keeps the list of what is waiting on you in your App Home tab and nudges you on your schedule; Slackbot helps you understand a long thread before you answer it. The reminder clears when you reply, so asking Slackbot for a catch-up never has to double as your to-do list.

Questions

Still stuck? Ask us directly →

Slackbot gives you a fresh answer each time you ask, within your plan's message limit, and only you see it. Mention Reminder keeps a standing item for every mention of every covered person, reminds them without being asked and closes the item when they reply or react.

Two narrow decisions, on the Team plan: whether an @everyone or @role message really needs a personal reply, and whether a later message in the channel answers a mention. Credentials in the text are redacted before anything is sent to the model.

Stop letting things vanish in the scroll

Add Mention Reminder to Slack, Teams or Discord - two minutes, once. After that it runs in the background and nobody on the team has to do anything else. Starter is free, no card.
