No. It remains in the feed until you clear it, but it is no longer unread. That can make a message you meant to answer later easier to overlook. Mention Reminder reminds you regardless of whether you opened it.
Slack Activity vs Mention Reminder
Slack Activity collects notifications, including your @mentions. You can read, filter and clear them, but reading a message does not mean you answered it. Mention Reminder keeps a separate list and reminds you until you reply or react.
Use Activity to review current notifications. Add Mention Reminder if you read mentions, put off replying and then forget them.

What Slack Activity does
Activity is Slack's notification feed. The redesigned view, rolling out since January 2026, brings DMs, reminders and channels you follow together with mentions, threads and reactions, with filters for each and custom views saved as tabs on desktop. A numbered badge shows how many notifications are unread.
Marking a notification as read does not remove it from Activity. Clearing it hides it from the main view, with a record in Cleared notifications. New replies can appear again. Slack also has a Replied label on Activity items.
Activity is available on all Slack plans. Some filters, including VIP and specific channels, require a paid plan. It organises notifications but does not schedule recurring reminders for unanswered mentions.

When Activity is enough
- You work through Activity at your desk and answer each mention as you open it.
- You are disciplined about "mark unread" for anything you cannot answer right away.
- You get few mentions, so a badge and a filter are all you need.
When to add Mention Reminder
- You often glance at mentions on your phone, and they count as read before you can answer.
- You want a list of what is unanswered, not of what is unread.
- You want a nudge at set hours, like 9:00 and 16:00, about anything still open.
- You also need the same for mentions in Teams or Discord.
Using both
Activity stays your live feed of everything new. Mention Reminder adds a short list next to it of the mentions you have not responded to, in your App Home tab, with a DM at the hours you picked. Reply in the thread or react and it leaves that list, whatever state the notification is in.
Not quite. It puts the message back in your unreads, but nothing notifies you about it later and it is cleared again the next time you open it. Mention Reminder sends a reminder at the hours you choose until the mention is dealt with.
It adds one reminder DM at each hour you pick, and only when something is still open. On the original message it adds a π reaction and nothing else, so the channel stays as it was.
