Mention Reminder
Comparison

Ways to keep track of mentions in Microsoft Teams

Teams has an Activity feed, saved messages, Planner tasks from messages and Power Automate flows, and a native Remind me is on its way. Copilot can tell you what you missed. Each one helps with a different part of the problem. Here is what each does with the @mention you have not answered yet.

⚖️ The short answer

Saved messages and personal reminders help you return to selected conversations. Planner helps you plan work; Copilot summarises it. Mention Reminder automatically tracks mentions and clears items after your reply or reaction.

What it is

How we compared them

We looked at one situation: a colleague @mentions you in a channel while you are in back-to-back meetings, and by the evening the message is buried. Which option makes sure you still answer it, and who has to do something for that to happen?

MC1470887 announces Remind me for chat and channel messages and a Reminders view. Its September 29, 2026 update schedules rollout from November, with broader availability in November to December. This is an announced plan; availability may differ by organisation.

Facts about each option were checked against Microsoft's documentation on the date below. Every option here does something well; the table shows where each one stops.

The options
  • Teams Remind me

The new native reminder on any chat or channel message, rolling out from November 2026.

Best for: Coming back to a message you have already read and chosen to deal with later.

  • Activity and Saved

The Activity feed lists your mentions; Save this message keeps a message in the Saved section of your chat list.

Best for: Working through mentions when you have time, and keeping a few messages to find again.

  • Microsoft 365 Copilot

Microsoft's AI assistant in Teams. Ask it what you missed and it summarises chats and meetings.

Best for: An on-demand catch-up after time away, in organisations that already pay for Copilot.

  • Planner task from a message

The Create Planner task message action turns a message into a private task or a task in a shared plan.

Best for: Work that needs planning, with a deadline and an assignee in a shared plan.

  • Power Automate follow-up flow

Microsoft's Follow up on a message template: pick the flow from a message menu and choose when to be reminded.

Best for: A personal message reminder in Teams before Remind me reaches your tenant, or one you want to customise.

When it is enough

When the built-in options are enough

  • You notice mentions and manually set reminders for selected messages using features available in your organisation.
  • Important requests need to be planned and are already tracked in Planner.
  • Your organisation already has Copilot, and asking it what you missed fits how you work.
  • Your tenant does not allow third-party apps in Teams.
When to add Mention Reminder

When to pick Mention Reminder

  • Mentions disappear during meetings before anyone decides to save them, and each one should be covered without a click.
  • You want a list of what is still unanswered, which empties itself when you reply or react.
  • Reminders should arrive at hours each person chooses, in their own 1:1 chat with the bot, rather than one time per message.
  • Your team also uses Slack or Discord, or several Teams teams, and wants one inbox per person.
🤝 Using both

Mixing them

Use Planner for tasks, Copilot for summaries and personal reminders for selected messages. Mention Reminder can maintain a separate list in the bot’s 1:1 chat. After your reply, the item leaves the list; the inbox card itself remains.

Questions

Activity shows mentions automatically, but does not maintain a recurring reminder list for unanswered ones. Remind me, tasks and the follow-up flow require you to select a message. Mention Reminder adds mentions automatically for people an admin enables.

Neither. It is a Teams app an admin installs once. It uses its own AI only for Team plan features, such as matching an answer posted in the channel and filtering @channel and @team mentions, and credentials are redacted before anything reaches it.

Stop letting things vanish in the scroll

Add Mention Reminder to Slack, Teams or Discord - two minutes, once. After that it runs in the background and nobody on the team has to do anything else. Starter is free, no card.
